- Hello, can you introduce yourself ?
Robert Majkut, M-A-J-K-U-T. A designer.
- Can you tell us more about your Whaletone project ?
Whaletone emerged outside my normal, everyday duties. It appeared as an idea in an extraordinary way and from the very beginning it was a huge challenge. Inspired by a dream, I was completely absorbed with the concept of creating a piano that would transgress the classic notion of this instrument. Furthermore, by developing this project I realized that digitalization of music, also the appearance of digital instruments, does not have a proper equivalent in design. Musical instruments should more dynamically enter formal and technological evolution, and Whaletone is my proposition of a modern stage piano. Having left the limits and compromises of design behind, I am aware that if Whaletone was made for a customer order, its form would have been completely different. Due to many efforts my dream was realized almost one year ago – Whaletone’s prototype was completed. As a project, it continues to make me happy.
- What are your other projects and plans for 2012 ?
This year I’d like very much to turn the prototype of Whaletone into a market product. Very good reception of the project, positive opinions about it and most of all enthusiastic reactions of the public from the moment of the premiere in April 2011 inspire our team to realize this plan. We are working on it intensively.
- What can we wish you for 2012 ?
For Whaletone – to develop and mature musically and gain popularity as an instrument.
